Yeah... I don't miss home either
Yo!! I'm having a great time up here. Molly and I actually have a lot of mutual friends (just like high school right?). I haven't replaced anyone; instead, the people here are like fresh glasses of water, or heroin. So many cali girls in my life right now. They're better than Blake cali girl, don't worry.
I pretty much have no complaints about this place. I love my classes (Oceanography, Psych, The Modern Mind, and French) and the campus is beautiful. I'm not having trouble adjusting but I do miss Jamie a lot. We still talk all the time though. I guess I could complain about my roommate a little but he also provides necessary entertainment so I dunno. He's just SO STRANGE and I want to staple his mouth shut. Seriously. Fucking weird. I don't even want to get into it.
I find I'm doing the same thing I did in high school--making friends with clashing groups of people so that I can never be a whole person or feel part of a singular community. It is... my destiny.
Oh, and I haven't smoked a single bit of weed since I've been here. Had a little bit of edible stuff, maybe, but no smoking. Healthylungz09! Anyway, hope you guys are doing well. Tiko, hook me up with your boy Andrew so we can get married, adopt a kid, and name him Andrew too.
Doing what I want, liking what I do
Good thing Tiko sent out that really threatening Facebook message, or I'd have never posted this here Beat Blog.
College is pretty cool. I'm still on a semi-regular sleeping schedule. I eat too much. I usually do almost all of my homework.
Here are my classes:
-Elementary Latin: Lots of memorizing, but it's a fun language. My teacher is adorable because she's Swiss, so she has a cute little accent that makes us confused about the correct pronunciation of "v".
-Culture and Crisis in the Golden Age of Athens: Studying 'roundabouts 500 BCE through the Peloponnesian Wars. The last third of the semester, we assume Athenian alter-egos and "react to the past" (ie. roleplay the aftermath of the Peloponnesian Wars). Tight.
-Introduction to Syntax: A linguistics course that is slowly but surely beginning to kick my ass. It's interesting, though. Makes me consider minoring.
-Performance and Self: ... Gay.
I have a total of one grade in two of my classes, and no grades in the other two. Yus.
I'm participating in the musical theatre club, Greasepaint. Actually... I have a lead in Urinetown (if you're familiar with the show at all, I'm Pennywise). So that's pretty cool. I was going to join Bi-Co News, but it seems like a really big commitment, especially since I haven't really gotten any grades back for writing yet... womp womp.
My friends are cool. I like them, although I certainly haven't replaced any of you. I haven't encountered Alex at all, probably because I haven't journeyed to Swat, not even for its legendary Freshman Dis-Orientation.
I don't actually miss home at all.
:D

Asher Roth
Oh hey guys!
I figure if I put I love college as my title I'll get rocks thrown at me and then be shunned for eternity, so I went for a..."you have to think about what Asher Roth does/raps about" to know that I'm actually still saying...I love college.
Oh whoa, okay.
So yea. I moved in August 28th. It was hella hot. And I mean hella hot. It was just really a mess but I got settled, said goodbyes and such and chilled with my roomie a bit. The school had stuff planned which I really didn't participate in. I just hung out with friends I've known since middle school.
School started on Monday. Never have I ever had so much reading and work to do until now. It was actually really stressful because I didn't understand what I was reading so I'd read the same thing over and over again. Eventually my teachers went over the stuff so I'm handling things better.
So yea, school is getting better. I've seen a few of you beat bloggers this past week. Kelly Shih, Amelia, NICCCCCCK!!!!! Yea, lol. So it's been great.
I've been thinking about Rushing so I've visited a few sorority houses. They all seem so nice but it gets to the point of figuring out if it is sincere or not. Either way, I think I'll make the right decision if I end up pledging or anything.
Last night was our first home men's soccer game. It was jam packed with Maryland Terps. We played UCLA and lost. It was actually pretty sad. After all this fun, my friends and I wanted to go party. I know, crazy right, Christina partying? Turns out walking down Route 1 in search for parties is quite lame. We found one but there were no drinks and it was jam packed with people. So we went to this diner and ate.
But get this, okay. So walking back to campus we heard this loud techno music. So we followed it and these guys who work for the school radio were just messing around djing. So they like came and got us, we had our own little strobe light party with them and it was...nice. At least I had a good time. My friends were bums though. They were just....idk. I kinda felt bad.
BUT EITHER WAY! It's college life. It's great, stressful, but none the less college life.
I hope all of you are having super di duper times in your respective places and will update Beat Blog SOOOOOOON!
OH OH OH! I wrote an article for The Diamondback which is like the schools student newspaper. And it was actually pretty scary to do at first but I'm glad I did it. It got edited a lot but oh well. I GET PAID! So excited. I mean, I would have written the article regardless of the pay but I'll take the money. I would put a direct link in here for all of you to read but alas, I can't find it online. I'll scan it in one day though. When I'm fully awake.
My roommate's name is Katie Molinski.
LOVE CHIRSTINA!

In Which Molly Deals With Too Many Cops.
I know I've been slum with this whole blogging thing, but it's been a moderately interesting summer... and fuck GET OFF MY BACK ALREADY.
Let us start with beach week. While you kids were off gallivanting and getting crunk under the warm, disgusting glow of the Ocean City sun, I was out SURVIVING in assateague camp grounds. We bo
ught five 30 packs of incredibly shitty beer, and we were ready to consume all of them, until Officer Layman busted us in three hours after we had arrived. Five people got $300 citations, and I got to pour out 140 beers. IT WAS GREAT!
The next day, we bought a gallon of vodka. Unfortunately, we had nothing to consume this vodka with, because the previous day we had eaten all 40 of the hotdogs we had purch
ased for the weeklong trip. So the group went out and caught about 50 ghost crabs on the beach and boiled them for dinner. I am only telling you this as an excuse to show this picture:
I will now skip to the last day. It is 3:00 in the morning, certain members of the group are incredibly drunk, and after two warnings from cops, we get kicked out of Assateague camp grounds six hours early for drunken and disorderly conduct. Oh, and we got hit with a $125 noise violation fine.
IT WAS A WONDERFUL BEACH WEEK. How was all of yours?
Oh, right, I'm supposed to talk about kollege updates:
I leave September 2nd, and I pretty much know nothing else about school. I already got my roommate, though.
Her name is Sarah, and shes very normal. I am worried. But she is very nice though. Also, this is my dorm:
It is not nearly as pretty as Erin's.
It's name is Tilton, and it has single bathrooms and card-swipe doors. So this I like? Yes?
I leave you now with a picture of goats.

Our house, in the middle of our street
Hello everyone.
I have officially joined the ranks of the collegiate in the sense that I now have my housing assignment! I'm living in a quad in Pembroke West (pictured below in black and white, thanks to Google Images). I have a large window seat and a (decorative) fireplace. Victory, thine name is Bryn Mawr.
Fun fact: Katherine Hepburn stayed in Pembroke West during her time at Bryn Mawr. Not so fun fact: she didn't actually like Bryn Mawr very much.
Anyway, I have three roommates. One is a prospective pre-law gal, a Leo from North Carolina, blonde with blue eyes, who likes Harry Potter, HGTV, animals, and everything indie. We traded music and requested each other as roommates. I think she might be my soulmate.
The other two are from California. One's a Capricorn and one's a Scorpio, one's contemplating economics while the other tends towards math, but both moved to America from Vietnamn halfway through their lives, and are involved in the same collegiate program. Both enjoy hip hop and Project Runway, and, so far, both seem pretty awesome.
We're beginning the process of color-coordinating and discussing decoration ideas. So far we're thinking of a cool-colored palate, with a rug on the floor, cushions on the window seat, and Christmas lights wound on a curtain rod.
I'm going dorm shopping in a couple of weeks, and, even though I wrote the article on what to buy, I was wondering whether you guys had any helpful hints?
Guilelessly (as Alexi would say),
Erin
PS. If the sizing is fucked up, I apologize. I'm not so good with computars.

I Wish I Was Drunk
Next came Orientation, June 25 (RIP MJ), which was a lot of fun. I bombed the math placement test though I don't know how badly. Whatever. All's well that ends well. I made a lot of really cool kids, stayed up till 3 a.m. hanging out and discussing Megan Fox. I didn't have the joy of cleaning anything, but hopefully that'll come later. ;) I did learn my school cry. It involves ca-cawing. Cause I'm an Eagle. Also I got my schedule ironed out:
- Understanding Human Behavior
- Visual Literacy (it's all about the way media is presented to us)
- Great Ideas of Mathematics (not actual math, but cool, interesting theoretical math like infinity plus 1 equals?)
- Critical Social Thought
- American Society on Screen and Stage
I've seen a good number of you over the summer so this might have been a major rehashing, so sorry. But uhm yeah, my summer's been pretty great all in all. I just hang out, metro to DC, buy sweaters, watch lots of really good TV and some not so good. I have five weeks left at home and am ridiculously excited. Hopefully we can have one last journalism hang out before we all leave, CDGJ felt this would be lovely and I agree.
Finally, I just got my roommates, a month after everyone else, but it's all good cause we live in the hall I wanted. Okay, so here they are. The first guy is a (99% sure he's gay) jew from Illinois who went to India this summer, likes Passion Pit, Bon Iver, Taylor Swift and Arrested Development. I think he and I will get on well. The other guy is from Bethesda and is uhm, well, he breathes in his spare time. That's all I've been able to get from our brief conversation
Monday, July 13, 2009
Hey, it's Amelia. Leave me a message, but don't text me. That's gay.
HELLO EVERYONE. Woohoo, it's HAGS '09! I am at work right now (I am a temp secretary lolz). All I'm doing is answering phones, and after 3 hours of facebooking and playing bubble spinner, I decided that it was time to write my first beatblog entry. My summer's been pretty bitchin'. I've mostly just been hanging out with Nathan Tucker and my artsy friends. Oh, and I tutor these elementary school kids twice a week. I went to UMD orientation the day after graduation. (I'm super good at planning stuff!) It was pretty good; I befriended a girl who plays the oboe. Apparently, I'm majoring in Hearing and Speech Sciences. (Every time I tell people that, they reply, "WHAT DID YOU SAYYYY?" They think they're soooo funny. (I guess they are. (Whatever.)) Sorry, I have a lot of thoughts.) I also saw the Hangover. 'Twas quite funny. It made me want to see Bruno because I was laughing throughout that entire preview. Okay, I think that's all I have to report. Peace out, cub scouts.

because I'll get in trouble with some of you if I wait any longer to post!
I finally have some stuff that's pertinent to the topic of college--so I can post!
I visited Cambridge and Boston for the fourth of July weekend with my family and Lisa and it was reallyyyy fun! I just love the atmosphere there--Boston feels like a cleaner, more family-friendly version of New York. I hate the Red Sox, which they are downright crazy about all throughout the city, but whatever. Yankees, all the way! The fireworks were amazing along the Charles River (apparently they broadcast those ones to show on TV nationwide? I didn't know that until I went.) I showed Lisa around the actual campus, which felt pretty cool as I begin to feel sort of kind of maybe comfortable there and know my way around :)
I haven't gotten word yet about signing up for classes yet, so I think that it happens when we go down for Freshman Week on August 27th. I read something about them wanting to advise us in person before we decide on classes. I took placement tests in Math, English, Bio, Chem, and Physics. They ranged from pretty manageable to ridiculously hard (I only answered a few Physics questions...probably should have taken AP at Blake at some point.) But no matter what, we can sign up for whatever classes we want, so the placement tests don't matter too much.
Pretty soon we'll get our roommates, which I'm SO excited for! I really want an international roommate--I feel like that would be an incredible way to get to know someone with a completely different upbringing than my own. I'm also going down a week early to clean up dorms as kind of a way to get to know people. It might sound sort of weird to voluntarily do work for the week before Freshman Week--but I have a feeling it's going to be really fun and memorable.
I miss you guys a lot and I'm thorougly enjoying your posts! Can't wait to see whats up with the rest of you. I'm doing a musical called Aida right now. It's technically at Blake, but the cast is from all over the county and it's a really cool experience working with so many new people. For those of you who know the show, I'm playing Radames. If anyone wants to check it out when it goes up in late July, I'll post with the info in a few weeks. It's looking really good! Oh, and I turn 18 next week :)
Anyway, I'm exhausted now. Hope you all are enjoying your summer!
Peaceeeee,
JP

I love Jesus
Hey everyone, Anderz here. Today I watched Vicky Cristina Barcelona. It's basically about some stupid sluts who center their summer around a weird ass painter faggot who fucks all of them. Anyway polygamy is pretty sweet so later I put Big Love season 1 on my netflix queue. Oh and I saw The Hangover last night and it was funny but way too hyped up! K all I've talked about is movies and television but it's summer and that's what I'm all about. Just been lifeguarding and spending quality time with my boyfriend and all that good stuff. Hope everyone is relaxing as much as I am and making the most of this swiftly passing summer!

SUMM--SUMM--SUMMER
Who can believe that we graduated 11 days ago? Seems like it's going to be one of those summers that just zooms by.
Thanks to everyone who came to K2 dinner! The AEP luncheon was real nice too, minus the fact that I really did not want to get up that early the day after graduation.
Anyways, I just got home from beach week last night and I am exhausted and very sick but it was AMAZING! Our place was so fly and right on the boardwalk and even though there was some inevitable drama it was hands down the fastest week ever. Hope you all had a really good first week of summer, it was nice to see many of you in Ocean City as well. (Especially drunk Ian...anybody else think that was hilarious?)
So now its really really summer which is good because I am way too lazy for it to be any other time but bad because I NEED A FUCKING JOB. If anybody knows anybody I would appreciate it like whoaaa.
My orientation thing isn't until July 13 but I'm already so excited! I can't wait to meet my roommate and buy like a refrigerator and shit. And I'm getting a Macbook next week! For those of you who have yours already--should I get the 13 inch or the 15 inch? I definitely don't need a 17inch but I'm unsure between the other two.
Okay well I will follow CDGJ and Erin's schedule writing lead once I register for classes. Miss you guys and hope everything is goin good for you all!!

Christina is bad at titles so she'll just write this instead
Hey girls hey! (Only because girls have only been the ones to post so far)
So I've been meaning to blog because I went to my orientation the other day. June 1st and 2nd to be exact. It was quite exciting. Like, all our Orientation Advisors (OAs for short) were so amazing...and helpful. I so wanna be one when I'm at Maryland. Can you imagine that? Me helping little kiddies...ahaha. It'll be so exciting.
SOOOOOOOOO
I have registered for all my classes so I'll just I guess say what classes I'm taking next semester.
1. ENGL101 - Intro to writing (Because I actually am a really bad writer...)
2. MATH220 - Elementary Calculus I (Because I need this for my major)
3. UNIV100 - Student in University (It's like a "OH YOU'RE A FRESHIE IN COLLEGE, YOU SHOULD LEARN HOW TO ADAPT AND STUFF...")
4. PHIL100- Intro to Philosophy (BECAUSE I LOVE THAT KIND OF STUFF. yea...)
5. PSYC334 - Psychology of Interpersonal Relationships (YAY PSYCH MAJOR!!!)
6. PSYC353 - Abnormal Psychology (YAYYYYYYYYYYY)
So yea, I'm taking 6 classes. There's a class that I'm supposed to take for my major (besides the two up there already) but it was full (I even had the first orientation! Curse upperclassmen) and that saddened me just a bit. But luckily college is semester based instead of that yearly stuff so YAY for MORE classes!!!! I also set up my schedule so I don't have to wake up until 10am for my 11am classes on Tuesday and Thursday and 12pm for my 1pm classes on MWF, so I'm really excited about that.
My summer has had a pretty good start. I recently bought my laptop (APPLE MACBOOK!) and I'm getting ready to buy all my dorm stuff however I don't know where I'll live or anything. I've also been going to people's Grad Parties which is really fun cause we do nothing but chill. =D
So how's everyone's summer going so far? And and and....
What's one thing you're really excited about next year when you go to college?
LOVE
CHRISTINA!
=D

I be posting
Hello everyone. I be posting. No, we're not in college--we haven't even graduated yet--but there isn't much else to do at my house right now.
So, in case it didn't clog up your mini-feeds, I finally got my college email address, and have joined my college network on Facebook, which is the only reason to want a college email address. Now I'm looking at classes. I think I know what I want to take:
-CSEM (freshman seminar; I don't know what seminars are available, but I have to take one)
-Elementary Latin (language requirement meets opportunity to meet males)
-Developmental Psychology
-Shakespeare: The Tragic and Beyond (at Haverford. With men. No, men aren't my primary motivation for taking classes, but they're definitely a plus)
And then of course, there's Wellness, or Eat Yogurt, Kickbox, and Don't Drink. Only half a semester, counts for a unit of credit for physical education (I need eight to graduate... lame). La di da.
What are you all thinking about taking? Also, when does everyone leave for orientation? I leave August 26.
My mom is reading my yearbook. Molly, thanks for telling me it's okay to be gay but not to become a cliche. My mom was entertained.
We graduate on Wednesday. I have nothing else to say.
Bye,
E-Wash
